Sorry for the lack of posts recently, I've been getting my portfolio together for an AIGA Student Conference going on this Saturday. Finally put the portfolio to bed. Looking forward to meeting some professionals and getting great feedback.

New Starship Whatever

Though I'd post this one, since it sums up how I feel when novices ask me about Graphic Design. And that guy in green is meant to be me, though the beard may be a bit exaggerated. Enjoy!

Octopus Prime

Last night I had some inspiration, and worked for 2 hours to crank this out. It's going to be my first print in my Lithography class.

UMSL Whatsit

So my university recently got a new mascot that has not been named or identified. It's just this big red lizard guy. So my newspaper, The Current, had me draw him up for their editorial opinion. You can read the original article here.

Starship Whatever

First comic strip of the new year! Decided to scrap Good Guys since no one got that it was a GI Joe spoof and I ran out of jokes. This new comic is meant to be more efficient to produce too, relying more on inking and unique shapes to define characters than relying on colors. Plus it'll be faster to color since each character will only be 1-2 unique colors, unlike the 5-6 colors each of the Goods Guys were. Don't worry, not all of the jokes will be Trek-based; I plan to spoof all sorts of scifi cliches.

Tried a new illustration style for my Current illustrations. This is for an article against http://www.godhatesfags.com/.

New Screenprint Design

Ok, this is probably what I'll do next in screenprinting. I wanted something with one less color than I usually do, and larger in size. The found image is from the Arkham Asylum game. Obviously it's in the style of the Shepard Fairey Obama posters.

Jellyfish Inflatable

In my 3D design class, we had to work as teams to design and construct sometihng out of sheet plastic, packaging tape, and a hot air fan. This jellyfish alien thing is what we came up with.

Made a small site to share the comic strips I make for The Current. The strip is called Good Guys, and it's a spoof on GI Joe or superheroes.

Screenprinting Fun

Thought I'd post the computer original of my screenprinting designs. I'll upload some photos of the finals in a bit.

Both of these are put together by me in Photoshop, using found images I peice together and Levels. I also do the ink color seperations on the computer.


First up is Godzilla vs. Robocop. I wanted to do something cheesy, definitely with Godzilla. Mike Lee, a friend of mine, suggested he had to fight Robocop. So he is. I was going for an old school comic cover look.



Next is a Ghostbuster, probably Egon, vs. a Pac-Man ghostie. I was in a halloween mood and inspired by my costume.These were printed on postcards that will be traded later in class.

My Halloween Costume: A Ghostbuster, complete with budget Proton Pack made from spare junk. Had to have it done early for a campus ministry retreat.

Mendelssohn Poster

Alla Voskoboynikova, a music professor at UMSL recently planned to put on a small free concert and had posters made to promote it. I designed several versions, but this one was the final. Stock images are from http://www.istockphoto.com/index.php .

Soul Talk Flyer

Soul Talks are small, open discussion Bible studies that my campus ministry has on UMSL campus. I designed a new logo and layout for the flyers. Had to stay with B&W to make it easy to mass print. I wanted the logo to be something iconic and simple.
